Reflux is the catch-all term that is used for Gastro Esophageal Reflux (GER) or Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) and essentially is the involuntary regurgitation of stomach contents (including stomach acid). While this is a completely normal physiological process, what is not normal is repeated regurgitation that causes 'marked distress', as happens with GERD. Ongoing suffering and pain in our babies is NOT normal and causes huge emotional stress to the babies affected and their parents.
You might hear, “they will grow out of it.” – But you wonder how long you can keep listening to your baby's cry of distress, and whether this pain and trauma might be negatively affecting their development.
You seek support and instead are told, "here is some medication to help" – And you just can't fathom giving your newborn, or even month old medication on a daily basis for an undetermined amount of time.
At 3 AM you whisper to your crying baby, “Why can't you just stop crying?" or "I don't know what to do anymore" – And you wonder if your baby will ever be happy or sleep well.
In the meantime, I will help provide resources and strategies for your baby reflux questions.
In a gentle way that is supportive of your parenting values.
You may have asked your doctor for help, read books, or researched online. My education in sensory-processing and advanced certification as a Pediatric Sleep & Reflux Specialist allows me to assess what is really underlying your baby's reflux, and get you on the path to getting the proper support to resolve it.
